Patisserie Valerie
We love Valerie’s turn to bake, because she always brings staaaacks of baked goods. She told us:
From left to right on the table next to my desk so I can keep an eye on who is eating what and how many:
- Petites Madeleines
- Palets Bretons
- Biscuits aux amandes et zest de citron poudres de chocholat blanc
She’s so good to us.

First bake of the year
Happy new year bakers! The first bake of the year came from Joe, div head, who brought us mega delicious banana bread made with buttermilk. Squidgy and yummy, the bananas are definitely one of my 5 a day… and one of the guys asked if there was rum in it, so it’s potentially a boozy bake! Winner.
Thanks Joe!

Vlad's first bake
This week, we had Vlad baking for us - his first Bake Wednesday. After doing the typical new-guy-at-work thing, and playing down his baking skills, he brought us chocolate muffins and “something made out of pastry and apples”. Excellent breakfast, one of my five a day!
Thanks Vlad!
Christmas themed or just an excuse to bake with...
Last week (yes, I’m a week late, I was ill last week) we had Steve baking for us. I can’t remember if this is Steve’s first or second bake, but he didn’t disappoint - he made us spiced rum chocolate brownies.
Now, you all know where I stand on booze in breakfast treats (big fan.. big big fan), so these were delicious, right up my street. Even more so if you follow...
Matt's extravagant bake
This Wednesday we had Matt G baking for us. I’ll let him tell the story…
Yea I could have baked Black Forest gâteau, some fancy flavoursome cheesecake, or even Christmas pudding… but no, I wanted to do something special, something that brings back memories of times gone by, and makes everyone feel all warm and gooey inside on this snowy winters morning…
After hours spent...

Festive Bake Wednesday
This week was my (Kat) turn to bake, and after the Reading Room Christmas trip to Paris, and a weekend of festive activities, I was feeling super Christmassy - and craving mince pies!
So I decided to make mince pies with a cheeky addition of apples and cherries, and then I remembered there are some people out there who dislike mince pies (and I in turn dislike them) so I decided to make lemon...
Week 3 of boozy bakes
This week was Zoe’s turn to bake for us, she brought us a delicious pear and mincement crumble cake, and mini almond cakes with a good glug of booze in them. Lightheated by 10.30am, I’m officially a lightweight.
Both are really really tasty, and the mincemeat has got me feeling somewhat festive.. maybe its the booze too.. hic.
Thanks Zoe!
Guinness for breakfast
This week’s bake was Dan, he brought us an absolutely brilliant looking Guinness cake. I’m privately worried that it might get me drunk again, or it might work as a hair of the dog style fixer. Either way, this smells so good. Off to nab some now!
Thanks Dan! :)

Boozy banana bread
This week, in cold grey London, Chao has baked for us - banana bread. It smells really good, and I reckon it’s just what we need - comfort food for autumn! Chao emailed us saying:
Just did some banana cakes with Rum soaked dried grapes. It does not rise very high though. But tastes good!
Thanks Chao!
Dom's First Bake
This week is the turn of Dom - his first bake at Reading Room. He’s made Rocky Road muffins and then mysteriously disappeared off to a meeting. Can’t guarantee there’ll be any left when you come back!
Thanks Dom, they look yum!
Brownie Bake Wednesday
When describing his bake, Matt told us about all of the sugar, butter, chocolate etc etc good stuff that went into it - I think he was trying to tell us how unhealthy it was, but the 600 grams of raspberries in there made me realise it is in fact one or more of my five a day. Winner!
So here are Matt’s chocolate and raspberry brownies, the squidgiest loveliest things ever!
Yum,...
Sugar-free honey-filled Bake Thursday
This week was Sam’s turn to bake for us - Bake Thursday it is! Sam assures us this honey spongy delicious cake is sugar free, I’m fickle enough to believe him because it is so good, that I want more.
Yummm, thanks Sam!

Biggest cake on Earth
This week Giovanni baked for us - chocolate and pear cake. He informed us:
for those who don’t like alcohol, the pears are cooked in wine!
It also happens to be the biggest cake in the world, possibly. Suffice to say, the office smells delicious. What are we thinking, beverage-wise for this beauty? Tea or coffee?
Looks brilliant! Thanks Giovanni :)
Alex's pastries
Since I missed out on David’s Bake Wednesday, I’m determined to get in on the action this week, and Alex has brought us 2 platefuls of berry pastries. Fruits, berries, jam, they sound yum! Time to get some coffee and nibble our way through Wednesday!
Yum, thanks Alex!
Raspberry and Peach Cake
Being new to the division doesn’t exempt you from bake Wednesday, fresh face David has baked us a raspberry and peach pie.
In David’s words: “Its Raspberry and Peach cake - with an apricot glaze. Never made it before, I don’t even like raspberries!”
Thanks David!
Rebecca's turn
This week, we had Rebecca bake for us - 2 banana and walnut cakes. This. Tastes. Amazing. And it was all gone in seconds - I stepped out of the room for mere minutes and one slice was left. Hungry London 1 + delicious cake = happy campers.
Yum! Thanks Rebecca! This was also the end of the current round of bakers, we’ve started afresh, with the egg-of-destiny full of names - next week...

Patisserie Valerie encore!
After a Bank Holiday Monday, Tuesday’s always feel a bit weird and out of place. The best cure for that? Bake Wednesday! On Tuesday! Which feels like Monday!
Today Valerie brought us indulgent goodies in the form of a classic cherry clafoutis, and an experimental but delicious looking gateau a l’ananas.
Amazing, thanks Valerie!

Joe does Bake Thursday
This week’s bake was Joe, continuing the Thursday trend. He brought us flapjacks, and in his own words:
Right so I had a go at baking some Flap Jacks. Basically I couldn’t work out what I wanted to make and I thought – what do I like! Turn’s out they are the simplest thing in the universe to make. I’m never eating them again though now I know how much butter and sugar...
Bake Thursday
This week was my week (Kat!), but owing to various hungry housemates, its a day late. Bake Thursday is peach and raspberry cakes, adapted from a Polish recipe by my Polish mama.
No picture of me, cos I don’t photograph well (thats my line, I’m sticking to it).
Thanks Kat! (yes, I thanked myself.. it’s just how we roll).
Pacman cake
Wednesday July 4th saw Chao bring us baked treats - his Pacman cake (3 quarters of a carrot cake, making the shape of Pacman, and an “experimental” lemon cake). Looks excellent, I’m off to nab some…

Thanks Chao! (p.s. next week is me [Kat] and I’m already nervous, ohnoes!)

Not baked, not Wednesday
Monday morning was a surprise for us in that Pramod did his Bake Wednesday a couple of days early, and it wasn’t baked - he brought us a south Indian dish, Idli with coconut chutney and samber. Take my word for it, the flavours in this are amazing.
